Langhorne Creek, South Australia

Winemaking Team

Peter Pollard

Peter was first exposed to the wine industry at a young age when making regular trips to family business in the Barossa Valley. After listening to the stories in his uncle’s “old drinking shed” Peter developed a passion to learn more about the Australian wine industry and decided to study for a degree in Oenology.

While studying Oenolgy at the University of Adelaide, Peter completed a vintage with Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley. Intent on broadening his experience, Peter spent the first half of 2001 working as a contract winemaker with the then named Simeon Wines, at Loxton and then travelled to the USA to work the 2001 vintage with Geyser Peak Wines in Sonoma Valley, California.

In 2001 Peter was offered a position with Langhorne Creek Winery for the 2002 vintage as Assistant Winemaker where he joined the team in a brand new and developing winery. From this point on Peter continued to grow and challenge himself as the business has expanded and he is now our Senior Winemaker. During this time he has also travelled extensively throughout the major wine regions of France and Italy, and more recently in 2007 undertook the AWRI Advanced Wine Sensory Course.
In Peter’s spare time he enjoys his cricket and football and catching up with family and friends.

Chris Graves

Christopher started his working life with a leading Adelaide firm of Chartered Accountants. In the early 1970’s, the emerging computer industry had much greater appeal and lead Chris to Melbourne. Working for a company specialising in artificial intelligence, Christopher was a trade delegate to London under the patronage of Austrade, and also spent time living in Singapore as an IT consultant to the Singapore Government. Later he was a founding director of a software company in Melbourne operating principally in financial modelling.

Eventually tiring of this, the idea of being involved in the wine industry, other than just as a consumer, resulted in a return to university to study oenology. Christopher started with the Boar’s Rock group towards the end of 1999, and has been a winemaker at Langhorne Creek Winery since 2002.

He has travelled extensively through the major wine production areas of Italy and China, and of course France where he has a particular passion for Burgundy.

Away from work he pursues his other major interest as a racing car driver in Formula Vee.
